Battefield 3 Patch Details: Fixing Bugs and Balancing Gameplay

According to the Battefield 3 Battlelog, DICE is planning on releasing a beefy patch tomorrow to help address problems plaguing PS3 players, fine tune various weapons, and get rid of some significant gameplay bugs.

Most of the problems the patch aims to fix are from a hefty amount of community feedback, so DICE seems to be hoping to get things right before the Aftermath Expansion.

There are two big fixes for the PS3. A lot of players have been experiencing input lag, so DICE has fixed this situation for all players. They also took steps to improve audio stability so most players won’t experience any more audio dropouts.

The rest of the update details will be for all platforms. Players will now be able to disarm M-COM stations from the left while standing, which they couldn’t before. They will also be fixing a rock collision issue on Alborz Mountains that allows players to camp in rock formations. On the same note, no one will be able to camp inside the railroad tunnel roof on Death Valley anymore either. There will be another change to the Alborz Mountains but this time in the Tank Superiority area. The visual combat area will be fixed.

Spawn points will be moved back for Squad Rush on Sharqi Peninsula to prevent players from spawning out of combat. In Squad Rush on Alborz Mountains, cameras will now be correct in the spawn menu.

The Gunship will receive some changes for balance. The FLIR view will be removed, though the position will still be available (just not the black/white view). The damage radius on cannon explosions will be decreased as well. Two players will also no longer be able to spawn into the Mobile Artillery.

DICE felt some of the hard to get medals were actually much to difficult to get, so they slightly reduced the prerequisites.

The weapon balancing is where most of the community feedback came into effect. The aim of these changes “is to give each weapon a unique feel and competitive performance to other weapons of a similar type.”

M416: First shot and horizontal recoil slightly increased. This should make the choice between M16 and M416 more interesting again.

L85A2: Slightly reduced horizontal recoil.

AUG: first shot recoil slightly to increase weapon controllability.

FAMAS: Slightly reduced horizontal recoil.

G53: Vertical recoil reduced to make this weapon more controllable.

QBZ-95B: Slightly reduced horizontal recoil.

LSAT: Hip accuracy has been increased to highlight the weapon’s role as a highly mobile LMG.

Type88 LMG: Recoil has been decreased to make it a viable option when compared to the M249.

M5K: Increased horizontal recoil and decreased vertical recoil to focus this weapon as a high damage, low control PDW.

UMP45: Decreased fully automatic fire to differentiate this weapon from the PP2000.

MP412: Increased its accuracy to better distinguish it from the .44 Magnum.

M26: Increased aimed accuracy to be in line with the other shotguns.

There will also be a few fixes for some bugs with specific weapons. The MTAR range will be correctly reduced when equipped with the sound suppressor. Suppressing fire from the M16 and the M5K will be no longer reduced. The M5K’s Flash Suppressor will now have an effect on accuracy, the L86A2′s hip fire accuracy penalty for the Heavy Barrel will be reduced, and the resolution on the Mk3 shotgun’s ACOG scope will no longer be low resolution.

Though the patch is due out tomorrow for consoles, it is expected no later than December 4 for PC. The patch will automatically download for PS3, and on 360 it will prompt you to begin the download when starting, and the PC update will start to download as soon as Origin is launched.
