Shadowgate Remake Lands on Kickstarter With Big Expectations
Shadowgate, a point and click adventure from 1987, is getting re-imagined by the original creators. They launched their Kickstarter funding campaign today with hopes of bringing a new, epic version of the first person fantasy adventure to Mac, PC, and mobile.
Zojoi Games is excited about this new project claiming this re-boot is the game “we always wanted to make” and that “we are thrilled that we have the opportunity to capture the unique excitement of the original while expanding on the world and mythos like never before.”
Right now, after a less than a day on Kickstarter, the project has already raised $12,394 from 423 backers. The campaign will run until November 25, and hopes to raise a total of $120,000.
Some features in the new Shadow gate include more than 60 unique rooms, tons of new puzzles that seamlessly expand on the original game, and intuitive command-based UI allowing deep environmental interaction. The game will also feature a full, digitally orchestrated soundtrack by composer Rich Douglas as well as a second 8-bit retro soundtrack. All of the sound design will be “atmospheric and puzzle based.”
The flawless first person adventuring and great story telling that made the original Shadowgate a success will return in full force. There will also be environmental and object specific animation that will bring the locations to life.

For those not familiar with Shadowgate, it is a first person adventure game in which you move from room to room through the labyrinths of a castle. You’ll have to stop some baddies, solve some puzzles, and thwart traps set by the evil Warlock Lord. Your quest is to gather all the various objects of power and well as three ancient artifacts. When assembled, these artifacts create the Staff of Ages. This is the only weapon able to stop the dastardly wizard as he tries to unleash the Behemoth, a powerful titan, on the world.
