Project Eternity is officially underway now that Obsidian Entertainment eclipsed their funding goals and quickly raised more money than any other game has so far on Kickstarter.
They crushed their initial goal of $1.1 million by raising $3,986,929 from 73,986 backers. The most impressive part about this milestone is that all of the money was raised in just over a month. When the Paypal donations are factored in, the total even rises above the $4 million mark. It seems as if there are a fair share RPG fans out their who share Obsidian’s affinity for the classic RPG experience.
All of this success means the developers will also expand Project Eternity far beyond their original plans. There will be additional playable classes, an extra town, and even a version of the game for Mac.
Obsidian plans to pay homage to their classic RPG games of the past like Bladur’s Gate or Icewind Dale. According to the kickstarter, they hope to “recapture the magic, imagination, depth, and nostalgia of classic RPGs.” The game will feature memorable companions, loads of exploration, intense combat and dungeon crawling alongside emotional, thematic writing.
Project Enternity is expected to launch on April 14 in 2014. Head over to the Kickstarter page for additional information on Obsidian’s new project.
