In a Nintendo Direct stream about 40 minutes long, Nintendo of Japan showed a bunch of improvements, big and small, to the gameplay. They also explained some of the new co-op features for both local wireless and online play.
Players will now be able to watch stand up shows and input their reaction to a joke, visit campsites for passing animals, and even take a boat ride over to the new tropical island. Sure, you could go to an island in other games, but this time it will feature co-op focused mini games. Players that win these games will get medal that can be traded in for rewards at the souvenir shop.
The improvements and changes do not stop there. Online and local wireless play will offer support for 2-4 players. Players will even be able to explore the houses of people they have Streetpassed. They will also then be able to explore these people’s entire town through the new Dream Mode.
The ability to build and customize roads has also been added as well as more choices when adding rooms and customizing your house. A new megaphone item will now allow players to grab the attention of in game characters by simply shouting their name. Memorable resident KK Slider will now become DJ KK on weeknights as he performs remixes to classic NES tracks.
Make sure not to forget there will also be a larger museum, a brand new garden center run by a slot, extra fish and fossils, and that now, as the mayor, players will be able to add things to their town like benches and street lights.
There is still no American or European release date scheduled, so any fan of the series that is not Japanese will just have to wait to try this heap of new features out. Check out the whole Nintendo Direct video, which is filled with all kinds of gameplay footage.
