Police are still on the scene investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in Los Angeles in the first of what appears to be Rockstar Games’ newest viral marketing campaign for their to-be-published upcoming game Grand Theft Auto V.
An LAPD spokesperson shared what information he could about the game at a closed press conference Sunday afternoon. “We came upon the crime scene and found two males with multiple stab and gunshot wounds. There was little evidence for us to investigate initially,” spokesperson Michael Garner told the press.
Garner continued to explain that the police department hit a brick wall when seeking a suspect and a motive. “This kind of murder is senseless. And that was what helped us come to the conclusion that this was the work of developer Rockstar North,” Garner said.
“Also, now that we can look at the case in a new light and investigate it in this perspective, we can confirm that dual-wielding single-handed weapons will be in GTA V.”
LA Police Chief Sheldon Sikes later confirmed via the department’s official Twitter that some of the RPG elements introduced in 2004′s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas would be reincorporated in this iteration of the series.
Previous viral marketing campaigns by Rockstar Games included Hot Coffee for San Andreas and lawyer Jack Thompson for much of the early 2000′s.
