Welcome to Game of the Week! What’s Game of the Week? Well it’s a way us writers at Piki Geek can give back to you, the gaming industry. Writing news day in and day out is as exciting as winning a molasses contest in Mississippi, but sometimes you need that extra injection of excitement. That jolt that inspires writing and brings a sweeping fresh wind to the work. That’s what Game of the Week is.
This week we’re focusing on Super Mario World. Mario’s first 16-bit adventure touched a lot of lives since it was a pack in for the SNES. Most people have some familiarity with the game. Unless of course your name is Jeroen who grew up in the heart of Canada where kids apparently weren’t allowed to play Nintendo. Super Mario World was one the first games I can remember playing obsessively. After school I’d meet Mario and Yoshi in my basement to tackle levels and destroy Bowser’s kids. The world map was astonishing enough, but add multiple exits in levels and branching paths and someone hand me my gaming inhaler because lil’ Dan is about to blackout from excitement.
Some of the Piki Geek staff will be picking apart Super Mario World. We’ll analyze levels, concepts, and ideas that make Super Mario World a classic. Have some Super Mario World memories or insights you want to share? Let us know in the comments.
