Sony Announces Tearaway, A Positively Papery Experience

01

Today at Gamescom, Sony unveiled a brand new IP. The developers at Media Molecule really “flexed their creative muscles” to bring us Tearaway, an interactive papercraft experience.

There weren’t many details given at the actual announcement during Sony’s keynote, but Media Molecule explained some of the game’s PS Vita exclusive features as well as the premise of the papery experience in a lengthy blog post.

“Tearaway is kind of like a buddy movie. It stars iota, a messenger from a paper dimension whose envelope head contains an urgent message to deliver…to you! It’s a very special message, and one that’s unique for each and every player,” the post says. ” In order to read yours, you’ll need to take up the role of co-star and, together with iota, journey through the vibrant papery landscape—two buddies going on an epic adventure to deliver this important message.”

Sounds interesting enough, but the Vita specific functions could potentially set this game apart from others in the creative gaming genre. Players can shake, touch, and even breathe on their Vita to affect the game world. Yes, that’s right, breathing on your Vita will cause in-game wind gusts.

“With Tearaway, we’re looking to create an adventure game with a twist, where you, the player, can literally get stuck in using all of PS Vita’s novel inputs like back touch, tilt sensors, camera, and microphone to connect you to iota and the paper world,” the post explains.

Tearaway also promises practically endless customization for your world. If you’re excited about this unique experience, Media Molecule gave you directions to make your own papercraft elk from the announcement trailer to hold you over.
