Two important directors have left the Bioshock Infinite team at Irrational games, raising questions about the game’s release date.
Nate Wells, the art director, and Tim Gerritsen, the director of production development, will be taking their talents elsewhere for reasons unknown.
Wells, a 13 year veteran at Irrational, had a distinct style that was very well received in the first Bioshock. He recently confirmed his departure via his twitter bio, which recently read “New job…details to follow”. Wells has changed it since, seemingly due to the stir it caused on NeoGaf’s forums.
According to gamasutra, Wells also listed Naughty Dog as one of his 2012 employers on his LinkedIn page, but has since taken it down. His page now just represents his departure from Irrational.
Gerritsen, who directly managed the majority of the content creators working on Bioshock: Infinite, recently, on his LinkedIn page, listed his employment at Irrational as having ended this month.
Infinite, which was announced way back in 2010, was initially expected to hit shelves on October 16 of this year. Obviously, that didn’t happen. The game is now expected to ship February 26, 2013, though these personnel changed at Irrational may push this back even further.
