Valve announced today that their Steam distribution service will offer software alongside its usual selection of games starting on September 5th. The software will “range from creativity to productivity” and be subject to the same standards as games on the service: Steam installation, automatic updating, and Steam Cloud services.
Unfortunately, Valve hasn’t actually updated the official Steam site yet, so there’s no word on exactly what software will be offered at first, but Valve has promised that new software will be added following September 5th. Developers will also be able to submit their software to the Steam service via the Steam Greenlight program.
