Edios Montreal, the studio behind the highly anticipated Thief 4, may just be holding off until the next console generation to release their game.
Thief 4 was officially announced on May 2009, and currently, it has supposedly been in development for 4 years. The game’s official website lays dormant, but according to the Official Xbox Magazine (via CVG), production is far from over.
Job listings for Edios Montreal reveal available positions involving work on a next generation action adventure game with mentions of player choice and stealth. Recently, the studio suffered the loss of its audio director, 2 lead level designers, 2 senior concept artists, a senior tech level designer, and a senior animator.
The franchise began back in 1998 with Thief: The Dark Project, and has continually gained fans and followers throughout its lifespan. These speculations point to a holiday 2013 release for the new installment.
According the CVG, when the game was announced, Eidos Montreal general manager Stephane D’Astous said, “We’re in the early stages for Thief 4,” and noting that the shop was actively recruiting for the project. No official details on the game have come through since.”
It seems as if fans of the series that have patiently been waiting for Thief 4 will need a PS4 or the next Xbox to play.
