Could Bayonetta Make a Comeback on Handhelds?

+

bayonetta

Bayonetta creator, Hideki Kamiya, has been getting vocal lately about game rip-offs, Viewtiful Joe 3, and, of course, Bayonetta. The original was a fairly strong seller and garnered a lot of critical praise but no sequel has ever been officially announced, so whenever Kamiya speaks on the subject, I listen.

Speaking with Famitsu, Kamiya revealed that there could indeed be more Bayonetta on the way, though it likely would not take the form that people expect. For one thing, it would likely be a spin-off starring Bayonetta’s rival, Jeanne, developed for handhelds rather than consoles. It would also be part real-time strategy in addition to the series’ signature combat, with Jeanne a teacher at an Umbra Witch academy. Kamiya said he’s also considered adding Devil May Cry’s Dante as a boss, though that would have to be at Capcom’s discretion.

Take all of this with a grain of salt, though. Nothing is final and any talk about future Bayonetta projects is just that – talk. It ultimately has to come down to Sega since they own the IP, but here’s hoping.
