Creator of the Minecraft franchise Markus ‘Notch’ Persson tweeted today that his wildly successful indie hit has sold 3 million copies of the Xbox Live version.
I got told Minecraft for XBLA passed three million sales today!

This accomplishment comes after a slew of impressive milestones since Minecraft’s release on Xbox Live. It has sold more than any other title on Microsoft’s digital platform in the first 24 hours of availability with over 400,000 copies purchased. Minecraft reached the 1 million sold mark in just 5 days.
The sales records definitely show how popular the game has become, but the true testament to its astronomical success is the amount of unique users noted on the Xbox Live activity charts.
Since May 14th, Minecraft has pulled in more users than Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is currently second overall only to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This means that more people are playing Minecraft on Xbox Live than FIFA 12, Battlefield 3, or even Skyrim.
It seems as if Minecraft is set up for some serious success with the growing sales numbers and increasing reported user activity.
