Sonic Embraces their Leaky Past, Announces Sonic Adventure 2 Port

Sega, who has had a hard time keeping a secret in the past, has embraced their leaky livelihood in their announcement trailer for Sonic Adventure 2. The trailer begins, “From the masters of secrecy. Comes the adventure no one knew about.” This text was followed by the Sonic Adventure 2 logo and that it would be leaking to consoles next Fall.

So, is this Sega saying, “Hey, we’re listening?” and wants to give the fans what they want?

Sonic fans are ferocious. They’re diehard to the end, but waste no time getting caught in the swirling winds of the Sonic Cycle. After Sonic Adventure 2, Sega went farther off the rails than ever before. Sega gave Shadow the Hedgehog a gun, Sonic a sword, talking buddies, and made Sonic part werehog. It was beyond bizarre, but those outlandish days of Sonic may be no more.

Sonic has been working hard to get back in touch with their roots. Sega spent a long time running from who they were, looking for a chili dog and a cave full of gold rings. Instead of reinventing themselves, they’ve realized that they couldn’t sprint from their past. After all, they created a hedgehog so fast they couldn’t out run it.

Sonic Generations was an olive branch, and they’ve fine tuned the Sonic 4 formula after fan feedback. It looks like Sega has come to terms with who they are which means the healing can begin. Though, finding success for Sonic in this industry is a whole other dilemma. Hey, at least talking buddies is kept to a minimal.
