The Spartacus TV series has been a big, bloody hit for Starz, with the premier of the most recent season, Spartacus: Vengeance, reaching nearly 4 million viewers. Looking to capitalize on the show’s success, Ubisoft and developer Kung Fu Factory are partnering with Starz to produce an arena-based fighting game – Spartacus Legends – that uses the TV series as its inspiration.
For anyone who has followed the series, or even seen a single episode for that matter, you’ll know that the show is brutally violent more often than not. It’s no surprise then that the game will feature “thousands of ruthless weapon combinations and a robust skill system” as well as allowing the player to “customize your gladiators and mercilessly dismember your enemies, limb by limb.”
Aside from the few, scant details provided on the Starz website, there isn’t a whole lot known about the game yet. It’s scheduled for release in “early 2013” for PSN and XBLA, and if I had to guess, I’d say they’re planning to launch it at the same time as the new – and final – season of the show, Spartacus: War of the Damned.
