Rovio is best known for their Angry Birds franchise, and all of the follow up games taking them into the different seasons, all the way to Rio, and even beyond the stars. However, they recently announced their new title, Amazing Alex, and have confirmed the game will release on iOS devices this Thursday.
While Angry Birds has established itself as an artillery-genre giant, Amazing Alex is more of a physics based puzzle game where players use various objects to create Mouse Trap-esque devices to complete various goals.
Rather than an entirely new IP from Rovio, the game is actually a rebranding using the rights from an older project called Casey’s Contraptions. The game boasts it will have over 100 levels to start, with the promise of free updates along the way. Players will also be able to create and share their own puzzles, allowing for limitless entertainment.
Angry Birds is a tough act to follow, and I’m interested to see if Amazing Alex will be able to succeed with the Rovio brand behind it. The title certainly looks promising, and I look forward to giving it a more in-depth look once it’s released.
Amazing Alex will be released on July 12th and the latest trailer can be viewed here.
