Guild Wars 2 Launch Date Announced, Hitting Stores August 28

Guild Wars 2, after five years of development, will be opening its doors August 28.

Those who pre-purchase Guild Wars 2 are given a three-day head start, and may begin on August 25. While most of the Beta Weekend Events are over, one final beta event is scheduled for July 20-22, which pre-purchasers are automatically given access to.

The release date of the release date, August 28, 2012, appears to have been hinted during a tour of Arenanet offices, printed on three jerseys representing three former members of the design team. Lead Designer Eric Flannum also explained that the numbers on their jerseys were their last work day at ArenaNet, and “any relation between those numbers and any kind of date is entirely coincidental at best.”

Quite an impressive coincidence, but as the date for announcing when a game will come out is pretty changeable, they could have changed it just to mess with the community.
