While sales of the 3DS went up by ten percent this week, the Vita didn’t fare so well, losing 60.56% in sales.
These numbers are according to the Media Create top 20, reported by Andriasang. It’s possible that 3DS sold so well last week because of the release of Pokémon Black and White 2, which sold 1,561,728 units in just two days—that’s the third best start for a DS game and the first on any platform to reach a million sales this year. However, its predecessors (Black and White) sold 2.6 million copies in its first two days—leaving the sequels a million units behind. At the same time, the new Crystal White Playstation Vita is set to launch in Japan tomorrow, meaning that some potential Vita buyers were just waiting until then to make their purchases. I guess we’ll see what the boost in numbers will be next week, if there’s a boost at all. For some context, the PSP sold just 4,635 less than its next-gen brother last week.
In addition to Pokémon, new releases last week included Kenka Bancho Bros. Tokyo Battle Royal for the PSP, which came in 4th for sales at 21,297. K-On After School Live!! HD Version for the PS3 came in 6th with 13,581; Steel Battalion Heavy Armor for the Xbox 360 was in 14th with 4,889; and Yuureisen no Majutsushi (Magician of the Ghost Ship) for the PSP came in 15th with 4,854. Dragon Quest Monsters Terry’s Wonderland 3D for the 3DS, which has been out since the end of May, was in second with 58,228 sales.
