The upcoming Saint’s Row: The Third stand-alone DLC, Enter the Dominatrix, will now be incorporated into the production of an all-new Saint’s Row sequel for 2013 tentatively named The Next Great Sequel in the Saint’s Row Franchise.
The new THQ President Jason Rubin feels like this sequel is what fans of the over-the-top series want.
“When it comes to Saint’s Row, it’s clear fans want bigger, better, and even more over-the-top and that’s why Enter the Dominatrix will now be incorporated into a vastly expanded, full-fledged sequel scheduled for calendar 2013,” Rubin said in a THQ press release.
Rubin also seems to see great potential in a high quality, full feature release.
“When I looked at the Enter the Dominatrix expansion in production at Volition I was blown away by the ideas and desire to expand the fiction of the franchise,” Rubin said. “ I asked the team what it could achieve given more time, more resources, and a broader scope for the project. We all agreed we wanted to play that game.”
By the close of the current fiscal year, this change is expected to result in a $20 million revenue reduction.
This is the first major change at THQ by Rubin since being appointed president May 30. However, his optimism comes only after he called the Saint’s Row franchise “embarrassing” in a June 8 interview with the Verge.
THQ will now be able to shift focus to titles such as Darksiders 2, WWE 13, Company of Heroes 2, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and Metro: Last Night.
