The journey to the end of the Starcraft 2 saga has been a long and arduous one. It was bad enough having to wait 12 years to receive Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty, and even worse upon making the realization it would likely be several more years before the entire story was told. Well, it seems the next chapter, the Zerg-centric Heart of the Swarm campaign, is nearly complete – about 99% complete, in fact.
In an interview with Kotaku, the project’s lead designer, Dustin Browder, clarified the 99% statement by saying “but that last one percent is a bitch.” With all the new units and playable missions already in place, the only work that remains is Blizzard’s trademark, painstaking balance process. Browder went on to explain, “”There’s something in for everything – it’s whether we like it or not that’s an open question. It’s the tuning and polish that really takes us a long time, and that’s where we get into the unknowns.”
With any luck, they’ll cross that final hurdle sooner rather than later. I know I’m not the only one itching to see where the game’s story goes. The only thing that sours this news is the fact that it’ll likely be another 2-3 years before the final piece of the puzzle, the Protoss-centric Legacy of the Void, comes around to complete the story. But if there’s one thing Starcraft fans are accustomed to, it’s waiting.

They just said it wasn’t even ready for beta at MLG last week. How can it be 99% done now?
You know when you’re looking at a loading screen and it jumps from 25% to 99%?
