Huzzah! The long awaited SimCity reboot has finally been given release date, one that’s a bit more specific than the vague “2013″ we were originally given. EA has confirmed that the series re-imagining is now dated for a February 2013 launch.
With E3 in just a few days, both EA and developer Maxis were reluctant to reveal much else, promising instead that SimCity would be getting a grand reveal at the expo. The game’s multiplayer mode will also be getting the E3 treatment, giving us a chance to see just how the reported “always online” features are going to work.
Much like the recently released Diablo III, SimCity will require an active internet connection regardless of whether you intend to play single player or multiplayer. Unlike other recent always-online DRM schemes, the game only requires a connection when started up and players will not be kicked from their game if their connection happens to cut out.
Here’s to hoping SimCity’s E3 reveal later in the week will bring us some more good news. Preferably about the inclusion of some kind of SimAnt mini-game. (Hey, a guy can dream, can’t he?)
