ArmA II Sales Skyrocket Thanks to Day Z Mod

Bohemia Interactive’s ArmA series has always been known more for its ultra realistic combat, along with it’s small but dedicated fanbase. ArmA II has recently seen a sudden resurgence in popularity, thanks almost entirely to Day Z, an ultra realistic zombie survival
game and ArmA II mod.

Created by Bohemia Interactive multiplayer designer Dean Hall, Day Z has become an internet sensation, causing sales of ArmA II to skyrocket. The online mod puts players into a post-apocalyptic, zombie filled survival scenario.

Make no mistake, this isn’t your typical run and gun zombie game. Hunger and thirst are ever present gameplay factors, forcing players to either hunt or scavenge canned goods in order to survive. On top of this, players will have to avoid not only zombies, but also one another, as some players roam the game world as bandits, stealing from others to provide for themselves.

If that’s not realistic enough for you, Day Z also features a detailed, location based damage system. Shot in the leg? You’ll have to patch it up before you can continue walking for any extended period of time. If you happen to take too much damage and actually die from your injuries? That’s it, it’s a permanent game over for that character.

Not sure if Day Z is your kind of game? Then you should check out CHKilroy’s most excellent series of gameplay videos, The Days Ahead. If that doesn’t convince you, then Day Z probably just isn’t the game for you.
