THQ Won’t Have a Big Presence at Upcoming Game Conventions

In light of recent financial woes, publisher THQ has announced a drastically reduced presence at this year’s upcoming video game conventions – most notably, E3 2012 in Los Angeles, and Gamescom in Germany.  Convention booths are all about spectacle, and that spectacle can end up costing lots of money – money that THQ can’t afford to spend these days.

That isn’t to say they’ll be entirely absent from these events, however. At least in E3’s case, THQ has stated “We will be showing games to the E3 judges at their event coming up, and we’ll be hosting a press and business center at the show for meetings (as well as participating with first party activities),” and that “we will be there to support our portfolio and the show itself.”

So we can still expect to learn more about games like Darksiders 2, perhaps the recently announced Company of Heroes 2, and if we’re lucky, maybe even the long dormant Devil’s Third. Maybe we’ll even gets some news on inSane, THQ’s collaboration with Guillermo del Toro, though reports suggest it may have been canned. In any case, we’ll see THQ at E3 soon enough, just not with their usual flair and spectacle.
