Star Wars Galaxies is the phoenix of the MMO world. After two game-shattering updates and the discontinuation of the game itself, SWG just keeps popping up for more. Its latest (and perhaps final) miraculous recovery has come in the form of SWGEmu, a project whose goal is to recreate the game in the state it was in before all those evil combat upgrades and new game enhancements brought it down. And hey, wouldn’t you know it, SWGEmu has just announced the beginning of alpha testing.
Liberator, the game’s current test server, will go offline on May 13th. Following Liberator’s death there will be a month long stress test, during which the SWGEmu team hopes to eliminate any and all major bugs, exploits, and stability problems the game may have. Finally, after that month is up, there will be a new server activated, marking the beginning of alpha testing, where the project will be more frequently updated, and (hopefully) rarely wiped.
So, is it too late to look forward to a project more than five years in the making? Is Pre-CU SWG too much of a relic to be of any importance in this day and age? I don’t know, but the fact that I can once again make a Trandoshan Bounty Hunter that doesn’t take kisses as payment has got me excited.
