Awesomenauts Launches Despite Publisher Setbacks

Awesomenauts-achievements

It was a pretty scary couple of days over the weekend when DTP Entertainment AG, publisher for Ronimo Games’ hugely anticipated downloadable game Awesomenauts, filed for insolvency and left the fate of the title’s launch in question. But you can put all your cares and worries aside – Awesomenauts has been released on both the PSN and Xbox Live Arcade as planned!

Mixing the elements of MOBA-style games like Defense of the Ancients and League of Legends with approachable 2D platformer mechanics and an immediately charming 80’s cartoon aesthetic, Awesomenauts aims to bring the previously PC-centric genre to the console audience. The 3-on-3 action features a number of design innovations designed to improve the fluidity of the typical MOBA experience, such as drop-in drop-out split-screen play and the ability for the AI to take or relinquish control of a character as players come and go.

I got to take Awesomenauts for a spin last month at PAX East and found it to be quite impressive. You can expect a formal review for the game in the near future, but in the meantime, be sure to check out the excellent launch trailer after the break. It’s got all the guitar solos, high-pitched wailing, and explosions you could ask for.
