At the tail end of the announcement for the current weekend challenge celebrating the new Mass Effect 3 DLC, BioWare let slip a jarring little bit of information: the PS3 hasn’t received any of the challenges because Sony won’t let them.
BioWare says that “Sony has not yet approved the promotion” and that they “continue to work with [Sony] to find a compromise”. It seems awfully strange that there is something in the way that BioWare implements these weekends that makes Sony put its foot down. After all, other games have had things like Double XP weekends just fine before.
The last line may hold the answer as BioWare says “Please remember to set ‘Upload Gameplay Feedback’ to ‘on’ in the online options to be able to participate in Operation Resurgence.” Perhaps Sony is uncomfortable with letting BioWare access some player data whereas Microsoft is okay with this specific implementation? Why else would BioWare need to find any sort of compromise with Sony for something that doesn’t use up any extra resources?
