VG247 was lucky enough to have a sit down with Borderlands 2 and Gearbox’s Steve Gibson to chat about some of the new features in the upcoming sequel – in sweet, sweet video form, of course. Over 7 minutes of video, at that!
While much of the info contained within is already known to us – more dynamic mission objectives, improved co-op and splitscreen play, weapons identifiable by their manufacturers, etc. – there is a decent amount of new info to be gleaned here.
First and foremost, of course, is the fact that you’ll never see the same gun twice. Even more interesting is the fact that certain powers can now be combined with weapon effects. Maya, for example, can use her phase lock ability to suspend enemies in mid-air. If someone then uses a lightning based weapon on the suspended enemy, it will create extra damage multipliers.
We’ll be getting our own hands-on impressions of Borderlands 2 this weekend at PAX East, so stay tuned for our preview. In the meantime, you can head past the break to check out the latest, greatest footage of the game in action.

I think I ruined my computer with the amount of drool I had coming from my mouth…
They seem to think that “RPG” means slightly more complicated skill trees and aggro mechanics.
I’m really looking forward to the game, but I think that labeling it an RPG is a bit of a stretch.
You gain levels and xp by killing enemies, which are then devoted to a divergent skill tree. Those are definitely RPG elements, but Borderlands is and always has been a shooter at heart.
