In EA’s ongoing tradition of catering to the lazy and rich with no sense of priorities or time management, they’ve released the Kit Shortcuts for Battlefield 3. Much like with the Kit Shortcuts of Bad Company 2, gamers can pay money to unlock all the in-game unlocks instantly without spending all those hours playing the game. Here are the prices for the kits:
- $7 for all of one class’ unlocks
- $25 for all class’ unlocks
- $10 for all of either ground or air vehicle unlocks
- $18 for all vehicle unlocks
- $5 to unlock all co-op weapons
- $40 for everything
- Free everything if you just play the game enough
The prices are about the same as what they were for Bad Company 2 but the final total is higher due to the shear wealth of content in Battlefield 3 as opposed to its immediate predecessor. Also unchanged is community reaction, which can only be summarized as bemusement, disbelief and bewilderment that anyone would buy any of these packs.
“Surely it defeats the point somewhat? Its satisfying to unlock new weapons etc, where’s the fun in getting them all at once? Not worth it, specially when it’ll set you back £32,” says thetimanator over at PC Gamer‘s comment section.
“I don’t mind it really. I think it’s very stupid lol but it’s not going to break the game. If people are desperate enough to get the unlocks they will go for it. They will most likely be disappointed however.
Two reasons: 1. Nothing to unlock makes the game quite a bit more boring. 2. Very few of the late game upgrades/unlocks are actually important, most of them are just fun or useless,” points out Xce2, highlighting the main problems with paying for unlocks in a Battlefield game. Many of the higher level players do end up using the beginning equipment simply because those are often the most balanced.
In fact, only one person has apparently tried to buy it so far. Axion_Alpha asked about buying the package on the official Battlefield 3 forums and was instantly met with laughter from other players over his consideration.
So, is it worth $40 to you to have everything unlocked for you? Would you really be willing to pay $80 right now to receive the game brand new with all the content unlocked for you?
