Team 17 announced on their Facebook page today that Worms creator Andy Davidson has returned to the video game industry to help them work on Worms Revolution. He had left the industry around the release of Worms: Armageddon 13 years ago to pursue other projects.

“I left Team17 feeling I hadn’t finished what I wanted to achieve, but for professional reasons I knew I had to walk away. I’ve returned to scratch the creative itch that’s been bothering me for the last fourteen years. It’s nice to be back at Team17, it’s as though there’s been a revolution in the studio itself – there’s a real creative buzz about the place,” said Andy in the release.

As for the current Worms game in development, Andy says “The engine and physics in Worms Revolution are awesome, the team have developed a truly landmark game. I’ll be lending them my insight to ensure that the game balance is true to the spirit of the brand.”

Hopefully this finally means another great Worms game. The series experienced some stagnation after Armageddon as they started getting more specialized on certain mechanics or gimmicks, culminating in the abysmal Worms: Ultimate Mayhem for XBLA and PSN.

Worms Revolution is expected to release in Q3 of this year and now it is expect to also be awesome.
