In a bit of far out news, Rovio has purchased up the game development side of technology company Futuremark today, which is known for making space-themed games such as Shattered Horizon and Unstoppable Gorg.
Having just released the newly minted Angry Birds Space, Rovio seems to be on a spending spree. This is their second acquisition in the past year, the first being Finnish animation studio Kombo.
No word on if the next Angry Birds game will actually deviate from the years old formula and have entirely new gameplay mechanics like the former Futuremark Game Studios folk were known to make. Especially in their most popular title, Shattered Horizon, which featured all sorts of spacey shootery goodness in three different movement dimensions.
No word on FGS’ space flight sim, though.
