Leaked Game Informer Provides More Assassin’s Creed 3 Details

Following the massive Assassin’s Creed 3 leak from yesterday and lots of speculation, Game Informers entire article on the game has been spotted. The article confirms many suspicions from yesterday’s leak and provides some insights into the game’s development.

The main character is Connor, known as Radohnhnecdon (Ra-doon-ha-gay-doo) by his tribe, a young man of both English and Indian descent and raised by the Mohawk tribe. Ubisoft wanted the player to experience the American Revolution from a neutral party rather than an explicitly British or American view.

Joining Connor will be George Washington, who will be part of the game’s central plot, Benjamin Franklin, who Ubisoft is claiming will not be a carbon copy of DaVinci, and Charles Lee. Series protagonist Desmond Miles will play a much a bigger role as well as he has “some important work to do” to prepare for 2012 and the end of the world.

The game will take place between 1753 and 1783, and the central cities will be Boston and New York. Major historical events such as Paul Revere’s “The British are coming!” night ride, Washington’s siege of Boston, and America’s retreat from New York City will be part of the story. The player will take part in battles such as Valley Forge, Bunker Hill, and Saratoga. In order to accommodate these massive battles, the game engine will now support thousands of characters on screen at the same time rather than 100 from past titles.

As speculated form the gorgeous images leaked earlier, Assassin’s Creed 3 will use a vastly improved Anvil Tech Engine. The new engine has been in development since Assassin’s Creed 2 was finished. According to the game’s creative director, Alex Hutchinson, one of their goals was to have the game “look next gen on current gen.” The game will feature two-and-a-half hours of fully acted cutscenes. They are also working on improving facial animation so that it don’t seem dull and wooden.

The game’s economy will also be vastly improved. Writer Corey May stated that you won’t just walk through New York and Boston buying up every piece of property you come by, but no other details were given. The notoriety system is also being tweaked, as areas will have different levels of suspicion. For instance, it will be easier to attract attention in New York than in Boston.

Many other elements including improved multiplayer, fast travel, gear customization, and platforming will be returning, but Revelation’s tower defense minigame will not be present. Combat has also been revamped to fit the time period. While Ezio and Altair could easily run away from a fight, Connor is a warrior by heart combat will be more fluid and aggressive. Plus, it’s harder to run away from people with guns. Duel wielding will play a large role in combat as well. They have also revamped the camera to automatically detect the best angle for combat.

I have found out that ‘Connor’ is an Irish name meaning ‘Wolf-kin’, ‘Lover of wolfs’, so maybe this assassin will be more of a ground predator, rather than the Ezio/Altair Aerial-based predator. I love symbology, lore and metaphors in games.
Also perhaps his native mohawk name ‘Radohnhnecdon’ also has a symbolic meaning, although as of yet i haven’t been able to find a translation.

Although my Mohawk tongue is rusty, I believe it means “He who hunts.”
