Persona 4: Arena Coming to the US this Summer

Remember that bear-y weird email that Atlus sent out the other day? It looks like Dale North’s investigation of the bear naked image was solid as Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena is now scheduled for a US release sometime this Summer on PS3 and Xbox 360 – albeit with a less confusing title.

Persona 4: Arena is being developed by Arc Systems, who are known for the BlazBlue and Guilty Gears franchises. In the same vein, Arena looks to feature bear-y flashy gameplay with the Personas acting as partners/summons as well traditional 2D artwork. Shin Megami Tensei composer Shoji Mehuro will be taking the helm for the game’s score–Be prepared to have annoyingly j-pop encrusted into your memory once again. In the mean time, “don’t let the homo men break away”!

The story supposedly revolves around Teddie starting a fighting tournament called the P-1 Grand Prix. The team from Persona 4 decides to investigate further, and encounters Aigis, Mitsuru, and Akihiko from Persona 3. There have been ten playable characters revealed so far; Yu (Persona 4′s MC), Chie, Yosuke, Teddie, Naoto, Yukiko, Kanji, Aigis, Mitsuru, and Akihiko. Rise won’t be playable but will act as the commentator for battles.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, there is a strong possibility that a new character is being created just for this game; their name is supposedly “Syuyaku” which is another variant for the word “Shuyaku” meaning “Protagonist” or “Leading Role”.

Despite not being a huge fan of fighters, this is definitely a game I’ll be picking up. Not only because I have man crush on Johnny Yong Bosh, but because Persona tops my “best series of all time” list.

So, what are you waiting for? Pre-Orders are already up.
