mass effect 3 ce limited for launch

If you haven’t already preemptively gotten your name down for a copy of the Collector’s Edition of Mass Effect 3, it seems you’re out of luck. According to BioWare’s community manager Chris Priestly, the company simply can not have any more physical copies ready for the game’s release. As stated on the BioWare forums, “The items included in the physical edition cannot be made in time for launch.”

“This is why, back in November, I started warning people that the CE would run out,” Priestly added. Though you might not be getting your hands on a physical copy of the collector’s edition, there’s still the option to obtain the digital version for the PC. The Digital Deluxe Versionis priced at $79.99 on Origin and contains a digital art book, limited edition comic, 4×6 Lithographic print, in-game N7 hoodie, Mechdog companion, and the bonus shotgun and assault rifle included in the Arsenal Pack.

Mass Effect 3 will launch for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC on March 6th.  A demo will be available on next Tuesday, February 14th.

So he started his hype back in November, huh?

Deliberately not making enough of a product is not a legit way to hype it.

And I’ve heard these claims before and they ended up wrong… The product actually sat on shelves for months afterwards. It’d be funny if that happend here, too, and made him look like a fool.

Yeah, I seem to recall them saying something similar about the availability of The Old Republic’s CE, and I know for a fact you can walk into any retail store and find stacks of them available.

I’m just waiting for it to go free-to-play, then I’ll pick up one of those CEs for $20.

Well, remember that Bioware/EA sends allotments to different retailers. It’s not as if they made 300k of these and then sent exactly what was preordered at each location. Instead they allocate 70k to EB, 50K to Walmart and so on.

It’s then up to the retailers to distribute the necessary copies to each location. And that’s why (if you read the link) some retailers still have pre-order copies available while others are sold out. Bioware is just saying that the allotments are fixed and will not grow despite demand for more units.

I ordered mine for PC and PS3, but I didn’t order the 360 version in time, Call me obsessive compulsive. I am hoping the in game extra content, like the robotic dog can be purchased separately. If they had the Collectors Ed. in a PS3 download, I would have preferred it. I hate digging for disks and worrying about that they don’t get lost or scratched. I just want to turn the machine on, and play. I’m hoping more Collectors editions would be available later. But, I’m not holding my breath. It might be because of the separate components that come in the box, and the box itself, they can’t ramp up production on a dime logistically, like they could if it’s just a disk, in a case with a paper insert with scant info. .
