Remember that awesome looking and fast paced mech shooter called Hawken? The one being made by a relatively small studio, Adhesive Games, that came out of nowhere and stunned people with some incredible gameplay footage? Yeah, that game is going to be free-to-play.
Of course, there are always two sides to the coin, and the dark side here is that the game won’t be seen until December 12 of this year. Still, that kind of wait seems to be worth it when you’re getting some hot mech-on-mech action in a futuristic setting for free.
With the FTP model comes some form of payment, of course. Like Team Fortress 2, players will be able to spend real money on virtual items like weapon upgrades and better armor. Pricing has not been announced, but you’ll still be able to destroy mechanized robots in style, no matter your entry price.
You can enter your name for the closed beta right now, or wait and see what comes next for Adhesive Games. It looks like Hawken will be a strong competitor for the MechWarrior series, though only time will tell.

Hey Mark Long here from Meteor Entertainment – not Meteor Games – that is publishing Hawken. We’re the brand new publishing division in Seattle. Meteor Games is a different publisher. Thanks!
