Spry Fox, developer of Triple Town, is suing Yeti Town developer 6Waves Lolapps. The suit involves copyright infringement, as on their blog Spry Fox considers Yeti Town a “blatant copy of Triple Town.”
According to court documents obtained by ABC News, Spry Fox was in secret negotiations with 6Waves Lolapps to publish games to Facebook and other platforms. The negotiations suddenly were cut short by 6Waves Lolapps who then released their app, Yeti Town, that looks and plays virtually identical to Triple Town.
This suit, newest in a long line of similar suits, shows the problem of the mobile platform IP: once a mechanic or idea hits big, everyone and their dog tries to copy it. How do you feel about the general lack of originality in mobile and social games? Sound off in the comments.
