Looks as though the Virtual Console will be sitting this week out. Never fear though, there are a couple of digital offerings this week that might spur 3DS owners’ interests. Those braving Nintendo’s online services will find a retro-styled indie platformer (and seriously, is there any other kind?), a physics-based puzzler, and a demo version of this year’s plumber-hedgehog athletic rivalry.

While it may appear to be just another 2D platformer, Mutant Mudds has a few innovative tricks up its sleeve. In his journey to save the water sprites from the mutant mudds, protagonist Max doles out punishment with his trusty water rifle and can duck between the foreground and back ground with his jetpack, cleverly utilizing the 3DS’
Nintendo WiiWare Feature: Newton Vs The Horde
Monsters are attacking a group of scientists, but luckily, they’re armed with the greatest weapon known to man: Science! Utilizing the raw power of physics, they must weaponize everyday objects, launch them at an advancing horde, and set up clever traps in order to survive the onslaught.
Nintendo eShop Feature: Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (demo version)
The 3DS gets yet another demo in its repertoire after last week’s Resident Evil Revelations, this time in the form of the latest Olympic outing featuring everyone’s favorite mascots (and characters from Sonic the Hedgehog as well).
