Responding to fans, Irrational Games has unveiled a new game mode in their upcoming sequel to their bestselling 2007 hit BioShock. Called “1999 Mode”, it will introduce a higher level of challenge for gamers looking for an experience closer to what they found in the late 90’s.
Eduardo Vasconcellos, Community Manager of Irrational Games, outlined the premise of the new game mode on their official blog. From the sounds of it, this new 1999 Mode promises a very different experience from the core game.
Specifically mentioned are resource planning, ammo conservation, effective weapon specialization, and a different measurement for health. Game saves won’t be touched but, according to Ken Levine, “you’re gonna f***ing [sic] need them.”
“We want to give our oldest and most committed fans an option to go back to our roots,” Levine said.
