Mortal Kombat for PlayStation Vita Confirmed

Warner Bros. Interactive announced today that Mortal Kombat will ship for the PlayStation Vita in Spring 2012. Developed by NetherRealm Studios of Mortal Kombat 9 fame, the game will offer a Mortal Kombat experience designed around portable gaming.

Creative Director of NetherRealm and franchise creator Ed Boon assures that the team is committed to following up the success of 2011′s Mortal Kombat reboot. “The original game content and new features we developed for the Vita will provide gamers with the best fighting game experiences available on the new mobile platform.”

The wording of the press release is ambiguous enough that Mortal Kombat may be a port of last year’s console game with Vita exclusive features, or a new game altogether.

Mortal Kombat will be one of the games available to play at the Vita Hill Social Club events being held around the United States.
