Speaking on his twitter account, Minecraft creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson has confirmed that the game has passed the 20 million registered users mark. This number would be an impressive feat for a triple-A title, let alone an indie game. Notch went on to say that, “23.23% also bought the game. Extrapolating, we find that 76.77% of the internet will register for things they don’t want.”
By my calculations, that would mean that if we assume most users bought the game at the beta stage for $10, Minecraft has made at least $4.5 million. Cha-ching!
Hit the jump if you want to see what it looks like when you blow up a handmade “20,000,000 USERS” structure in Minecraft.
First you cover the entire thing with dynamite (ask your parents’ permission first, kids).
Then you blow that sucka!
