An article in the most recent issue of the Journal of BurnCare & Research examined the results of constant use of the Nintendo Wii by burn victims, finding a clear correlation between use of the video game console and overall improvement of the patient. The study specifically focused on burn victims with significant damage to joints such as the knee, elbow and hip between the ages of 20 and 78.
Unsurprisingly, the study found universally positive responses to the Wii users in all regards, from range of motion, pain, anxiety and enjoyment but it does admit that the statistical difference was too small to give a clear answer. A larger sample group with more time for the study is suggested and the researched say that it is likely the positive trends they noticed will only grow as a patient continues to supplement their rehabilitation with the Wii.
No word on the Kinect or Move. I’d wager the results would be the same with both of them with the extra factor of feeling a little silly with the Kinect.
