Back in 2007, Microsoft filed a patent for “An integrated gaming and media experience is disclosed, including recording of content on a gaming console.” In laymen’s terms this means using the game console like a DVR box to record television shows, further pushing Microsoft’s plan to make their game consoles full-on multimedia devices. According to Eurogamer, Microsoft was granted the patent late last month.
According to the patent, the DVR will integrate itself into the system menu, and can be used while the console is in use or turned off. It also states that in addition to recording TV shows it can be used to record gaming, DVDs, music, and so on.
Microsoft is expected to show off the console sometime this year, possibly as early as next week’s Consumer Electronics Show.
