Potential Battlefield 3 Easter Egg Hints at Battlefield 2142 Sequel

Grab your tinfoil hats and cross your fingers – DICE may have just hinted at what their next project might be. BF3Blog has discovered what could be a possible Easter Egg suggesting that the Sweedish developer’s next game could be a sequel to the 2006 futuristic romp Battlefield 2142.

You can find the hidden message for yourself if you have access to the Back to Karkand expansion. On the Wake Island map, look out for a number etched onto the bottom of a wall. The number is, you guessed it, “2143.”

Not convinced? Take this into consideration: in 2006, a similar number appeared in the Battlefield 2: Euro Forces and Armored Fury map packs. That number, “2142”, was discovered well before Battlefield 2142 was ever formally announced. It almost seems like history is repeating itself.

Of course, this is far from any sort of official confirmation, but it seems a bit too convenient to chalk up to coincidence. Considering that the mech-piloting, hover-tank-riding, titan-assaulting sci-fi spinoff stands as my favorite entry in the Battlefield series, I’ll certainly by hoping that there is meaning in this message.
