Over the past few weeks, rumors have been swirling regarding the release of a new Alan Wake game. The original rumors pegged the name as “Alan Wake: Night Springs” which made a lot of sense as Night Springs was the name of the a television show inside the game world. However, this was proven to be incorrect at last night’s VGA as a trailer was officially shown for Alan Wake: American Nightmare.
American Nightmare will not be an official prequel or sequel to the original and it isn’t considered as DLC to the original either. It looks to be a downloadable XBLA title that will follow Mr. Scratch, a rather mean alter-ego of Alan Wake that was first introduced in previous Alan Wake DLC.

There has been no release date for American Nightmare – and there has yet to even be an official announcement of an Alan Wake sequel – but at least there’s something for the fans of this series to bide their time over until one such announcement is made.
