There’s been a lot of talk about Ninja Gaiden 3 lately, and it’s been all too easy to overlook the next entry in Team Ninja’s other big franchise – Dead or Alive 5. It’s been a long time since Dead or Alive 4 came out, so what’s new in DoA5? Traps. Lots and lots of traps.
Labeled as “Dynamic Attractions,” these stage hazards should raise the bar for the series, which is already known for its multi-tiered stages and “Danger Zone” hazards. The new game will feature such dangers as exploding floors, dropping from extreme heights, and vehicle traffic, just to name a few.
To help facilitate the increased emphasis on traps, each character has a new special attack called a “power blow,” which throws your opponent into the air and, ideally, into the hungry jaws of a nearby hazard. Of course, only time will tell if this shift in focus is to the series’ benefit or not, so we’ll find out when DoA5 launches next year.
