To accompany the release of Grand Theft Auto III on mobile devices next week, and as part of the 10 year anniversary celebration, Rockstar has announced the that some music from GTA III will go on sale for the first time on iTunes.
Music from the radio stations Lips 106 and Head Radio will be available starting at $0.69 per song or $2.99 for one station’s album. Separate from other stations, these two consisted of entirely original songs for GTA III. Later games in the series would have more licensed tracks, but III stands out from the rest with a pleasant mix of licensed and original tunes.
Head Radio has some classics like “Fade Away” for those night driving sequences where you can take a break from the action and just cruise the town. Lips 106 was perfect for those times where you needed to get some… err… health, and songs like “Rubber Tip” fit the mood just right.
I will always fondly remember the days of going over to my friend’s house for some Grand Theft Auto III, or as we played it, “avoid the police.” It was violent, unapologetic, and a solid way to burn four hours, and while the gameplay ages, the music will always stay with me. Now it can stay even closer, but I’m still hoping for the great songs of K-Jah in the near future.
