With Gears of War 3 out the door and selling about as well as can be expected, Epic Games is moving on to something new. In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Epic president, Mike Capps, claims the studio’s new, currently unrevealed IP, is going to be something “radically different”.
The new game, whatever it may be, is set for its unveiling at the VGAs this Saturday, and Capps seems pretty well excited for it. “So this is going to be one of those projects where we try something totally different, and it just went ‘boom’, because everyone had this pent up energy to do something new” he says.
So does this mean Epic is leaving Gears of War behind, the way they’ve all but left the Unreal series behind? Not likely, as Capps “can’t wait for them to get back to something like Gears in the future, because it’s sort of our bread and butter, and they’re going to be more energized for it too.”
For now, we can only speculate as to what their new IP might be like. Be sure to tune into SpikeTV on Saturday and suffer through the annual VGAs, because everyone knows you only watch them for the trailers anyway.
