A few days ago, we reported that a South Park RPG was in the works. Other than the announcement that the Matt Stone and Trey Parker would be penning the script and that Obsidian would be developing it, details were sparse. That changed today, as many story and gameplay details have been revealed.
You will take on the role of the new kid in town who will be fully customizable. The only plot detail at this point is that you will have to fight to fit in with the town and that the game begins with you playing a live action RPG.
In terms of gameplay, the game will borrow different concepts from a variety of games. The combat system will be similar to the Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi games. You will be able to see enemies on the field and the combat system will combine turn based elements with active elements like quick time events.
You will be able to customize characters with equipment that will feature an augmentation system like the Final Fantasy VII materia system. There will also be a summoning system, but Stone Parker couldn’t share any details yet. All of the environments will be hand drawn and animated in 2D.
There is currently no confirmed release date, but it is supposed to launch sometime next year.
