If you’re a fan of horror movies and video games, you’ve probably heard of Guillermo del Toro. He’s directed movies such as Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy, and is even creating a video game with THQ. In the latest episode of Irrational Interviews, he sits with Ken Levine to discuss the finer points of bringing movies and games to life, and it’s pretty damn obvious the man knows his shit.
The two storytellers discuss topics ranging from most filmmakers’ ignorance regarding video game storytelling, to the way creating a scene you’re not emotionally invested in is similar to a bout of erectile dysfunction. It makes for a really interesting listen, especially if you’ve ever wondered about the thought processes behind some of the story elements in your favorite game or movie.
According to Levine, the conversation went on for so long they had to split it into two episodes with the first being released today, and the second coming “in a few weeks”. I don’t want to say that’s a torturously long time, but I want it now!
