With the release of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception coming on Tuesday, the team at Naughty Dog is starting to discuss plans for the future. No, it probably will not take place on the moon, as there isn’t much treasure hunting to do up there, but the list of potential venues is wide open.
Justin Richmond, the director of Uncharted 3, said, “as long as fans want the games and as long as we find something that’s interesting and will push the medium forward, we’ll continue to make them.” Sales figures for Uncharted 2 were quite strong, and we can probably expect the same from the sequel.
There are plenty of stories left to tell about Nathan Drake, as Richmond said in the interview. A prequel to the current series called Uncharted: Golden Abyss is set to come out on the PS Vita sometime in 2012. Though the game is not directly being developed by Naughty Dog, they are overseeing the whole process.
One thing the team is concerned about for the next main entry is going too far. Richmond talks about how the direction after a big hit can’t be too out there, but asks, “How are we going to top that? What are we going to do different?”
Thus far, the Uncharted games have been a big hit. Judgment is out until Uncharted 3 hits the shelves on Tuesday, but after that, who knows how much life is left in the series? I, for one, hope to see a lot more Nathan Drake, and of course Elena Fisher
