Sony Pictures is reportedly closing in on a deal to adapt Assassin’s Creed for the silver screen. After Ubisoft debuted their own movie making division it didn’t take long for the rights to the crazy successful franchise to start making the rounds in Hollywood. Evidently, a lot of people see a lucrative future for Assassin’s Creed in cinemas.

Sources indicate that the final details between the companies are being worked out now, with Sony expected to co-finance and co-produce the movie with Ubisoft who have stated their desire to very much remain a part of the project.

For Sony meanwhile, acquiring the AC property is another indication that the company is serious about adapting more games into movies, similar in a way to how Paramount kept making comic book movies for years because it was easy and profitable.

An Assassin’s Creed movie would join Uncharted and Infamous as two other game adaptations Sony is currently turning into motion pictures, and success for any of them will likely prompt Sony to continue mining the PlayStation back catalog for more movie ideas.

Fingers crossed for an adaptation of PaRappa the Rapper as directed by Danny Boyle.

Please, Please, Please for the love of the spaghetti monster do NOT make another Prince of Persia or Doom – the movie. There is so much good here that could make a great film. Look deep into your money soaked souls and make this more than a crap filled effects romp on the derp train!
