According to a recent press release, Duke Nukem 3D will be available to Android device users in the near future. The game will be a port of the iOS version of the game which has been out for a while.
Duke Nukem 3D is being ported by Tapjoy and MachineWorks Northwest and will be Duke’s first foray into the Android marketplace. According to the MachineWork’s site, the HP Touchpad port has been out since July but makes no mention on a time table for Android users’ ability to fly with a jet pack and kill pigs between meetings.
As an Android user and longtime fan of Duke Nukem (3D was my first FPS experience), I am excited for the release but remain skeptical of the port. The iOS version wasn’t terrible, but with many FPSs, it can be hard to translate the experience to a device without analog sticks or keyboard and mouse. Also, with any Duke Nukem game, we must remember “soon” means “within the lifetime of our developers… we think.”
